101 in 1001

I loved this idea so much I had to copy it.  Thanks Angela!  This goes perfectly with my new blog.  The goal is to try 101 new recipes in 1001 days.  That's by October 13, 2016.  I'm on my way!  My first blog post happens to be a new recipe.

Korean-Style Ribs (Crockpot) Jan 16, 2014
Delicious and easy.  What more can I ask for.  Click on the link for my blog post.

Korean Beef Bulgogi Jan 21, 2014
Click on link for the recipe source. I'm on a Korean barbeque flavour kick this week.  This dish was easy to make but I did make some modifications to the recipe she posted.  I doubled the amount of ground beef  because I thought the 1/4 cup of brown sugar and soy sauce was a lot for only 1 pound of ground beef.  I omitted the red pepper flakes because I did not want it spicy for the girls.  I also added diced red bell peppers for some colour and crunch.  Served it with steamed rice.  The girls really loved it.  I added some Sriracha to mine for some heat.  It was good.  The next time I make it, I'll serve it as filling for lettuce wraps.

Crockpot Brown Sugar Balsamic Glazed Pork Feb 6, 2014
Click on the link for the recipe source.  Crockpot recipes are always easy.  We have Crockpot Thursdays in our house since it's the only day during the week I work and it's so nice to come home from work with dinner pretty much done.  This one had great flavours.  The only thing I did different is I skipped step 6.  Instead, I removed the pork once it was done and glazed it using the broiler in my oven.  I served with mashed potatoes, steamed broccoli and buttered corn.  The family gobbled it all up.

Portobello Mushroom Chicken Feb 10, 2014
Angela emailed me this recipe on March 14, 2008.  I finally made it.  The flavours were good but I made some errors during cooking.  I added too much liquid so it was very "soupy".  I was in a rush (aka hungry) so I added 1 teaspoon of cornstarch with some water to thicken the sauce instead of reducing it.  Well, it thickened too much.  Since I served it over spaghetti (I wanted linguine or penne but this was the only pasta I had on hand), I felt that it was not saucy enough.  I want to make it again with a few tweaks.  Hopefully, it'll be blog-worthy then.

Banana Oatmeal Muffins Feb 11, 2014
Check out my post on this recipe.

Cream Cheese CCC with m&ms Feb 12, 2014
Long form...Cream Cheese Chocolate Chip Cookies with m&ms.  I wanted to make chocolate chip cookies with pink m&ms for Valentine's Day.  I always like to try new chocolate chip cookie recipes.  (BTW...Read this amazing post by The Food Lab:  The science of the best chocolate chip cookie.)  I came across this recipe because my friend Nancy from gottagetbaked made them.  The cream cheese got my attention.  This will be next post on Ivylicious.  For now, click on the name to check out Nancy's hilarious post.  Update: Here is my post.

Cajun Chicken Linguine Feb 18, 2014
This was really good!  But I did use 1/2 brick of cream cheese instead of just 3 tablespoons.  I'd make this again.

Crockpot Balsamic Roast Beef French Dip Sandwiches Feb. 19, 2014
Found this on Pinterest.  Hubby and I didn't really like the tanginess of the sauce.  I don't think I would make it again. No picture, sorry.

Palabok Feb 20, 2014
This is one of my favourite Filipino dishes.  I was intimidated to make it because it has lots of components but I was surprised that it was easy and wow, it was delicious!  Palabok consists of thin rice noodles smothered with a savoury sauce that uses pork and shrimp as its base flavours.  Annato seeds provide the orange colour to the sauce. It is then topped with shrimp, chopped hard boiled eggs, crushed chicharon (pork rinds), fried garlic, green onions and freshly squeezed lemon juice.  If you're feeling adventurous and want to try this, come over and I'll gladly make it for you!

Chicken, Kale and Quinoa Soup Feb 25, 2014
I love finding new soups!  This was great and a nice change from the Zuppa Toscana that I make all the time.

The World's Best Chicken Feb 26, 2014
That's the claim.  It was very good.  I don't know if I would go as far the world's best.  I used bone in chicken because I'm on a strike from boneless, skinless breasts.  Dijon and maple.  Good.  Chicken.  Good.

Quinoa Chocolate Cake Mar 13, 2014
Quin-WHAT?  (LOL, thanks Sue-E!)  A completely flourless chocolate cake made with cooked quinoa (as opposed to quinoa flour).  It was good.  Serious.  The quinoa gave it a little texture which you may or may not like.  But, it was chocolate cake, and tasted like chocolate cake.  A great option for those on a gluten free diet.

Sesame Chicken with Quinoa Mar 19, 2014
Delicious!  My quinoa was a little mushy so I think I added too much liquid but the sesame chicken was so good.  Definitely would make this again.
